Trust Reaches Landmark of 2500 Members

The Exeter City Supporters’ Trust is proud to announce that following the recent success of our football club in attaining promotion back to the Football League, the Trust has seen unprecedented levels of support from City fans, with membership breezing through the 2,500 mark.

In the last few weeks Supporters’ Trust officials have seen some 300 new members join the Trust for the first time, with over 100 current members renewing their subscriptions to the Trust. Supporters’ Trust Membership Co-ordinator Martin Lawrence commented; “In the last 3 weeks we have seen somewhere in the region of a 20% increase in Trust membership, with many current members also choosing to increase their contributions to the Trust”.

Following this recent surge in support for the Supporters’ Trust, membership has risen to 2,553 and Trust officials are hopeful that numbers will grow further with even more Grecian fans stepping up to the plate in support of the Trust. Exeter City chairman Denise Watts added; “The Support that we have received from our members has been quite phenomenal. Without this support who knows where we would be today”.

Some 18 months ago the Supporters’ Trust undertook a strategic review of its operation, with the view to re-defining its key aims and objectives. One of the principle aims set out in this review was the attainment of a 2,500 membership base. Martin Lawrence commented; “With membership of the Trust currently surpassing 2,500, the Board of Society has now delivered on one of our key strategic aims, which is fantastic news for both the Trust and Exeter City Football Club”. Despite this landmark achievement for the Supporters’ Trust work is ongoing to help grow membership further. Lawrence added; “Now that we have made this fantastic achievement, we must now raise the bar, if we are to take the Trust forward. As part of my ongoing work with membership administration, I have recently dispatched 230 renewal requests which we all hope will yield positive results for the Trust”.

Anybody who has yet to join the Supporters’ Trust is urged to get in touch and join as soon as possible. ECFC chairman Denise Watts commented; “I would urge anybody with a little bit of Exeter City in your heart to join the Trust and be a part of the success that we have realised at Exeter City as a fan owned club”.

Anybody interested in joining the Supporters’ Trust may join by visiting the Supporters’ Trust website at www.ecfcst.org.uk. Alternatively you can email trust@ecfc.co.uk with your name and address and an application form and stamped addressed envelope will be forwarded to you. If you are not online, application forms may be picked up from the new ECFC reception during the week or from within the ground on a match day from one of the 6 communication stations set up inside St. James Park.

KIO Football Tournament - 6th July

Local Footballers Say No to Racism : Exeter City FC Tournament at University of Exeter on July 6

THE FOURTH annual Exeter City FC ‘Kick Racism Out of Football’ tournament will take place on Sunday July 6. The popular event has been boosted by a new partnership with the University of Exeter and the support of a series of local organisations including lead sponsor Devon County Council.

Teams drawn from many parts of the world have entered the competition which particularly encourages teams from local black and minority ethnic communities.

The five a side tournament, which is backed by the new League Two Club and its Supporters’ Trust, has been organised by the Exeter City Kick it Out Group working with the Grecians’ Football in the Community team.

And in a new move the event has been developed with the University of Exeter and will be held on all weather pitches at the University’s Streatham Sports Centre on the main campus.

This year’s tournament promises to be the biggest and best yet following generous support from sponsors who in addition to Devon County Council, the University of Exeter and the Supporters Trust include Exeter City Council, Devon and Cornwall Police, Exeter Community Initiatives, St. Sidwell’s Centre, St James’ Solicitors, Titan Computers and Exeter City Supporters’ Club. Several of the sponsors and other local organisations will have stalls at the event.

“We are delighted to be working with the University and so many leading local organisations. This all helps the club reach out into the community” said Fran Jenkin from Exeter City’s Kick It Out Group and the Supporters’ Trust Board of Society.

“Football is a wonderful way to break down barriers and this event will really celebrate diversity in the area and help build links between the club and all those taking part”.

Previous winners of the competition came from Poland (2005), Slovakia (2006) and Exeter College (2007).

The tournament will kick off at 10am when University Deputy Vice –Chancellor Mark Overton officially launches the day.

Trust Secures £50,000 from HLF

Grecian’s Promotion Success to be saved for Future Generations

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded a grant of almost Fifty Thousand Pounds (£49,700) to the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust (ECFCST) for an Exhibition and Archive of the club’s heritage called Grecian Voices, it was announced today.

The project will enable Exeter City’s rich history to be documented and recorded for generations of supporters to come. As well as digitising and archiving memorabilia relating to significant events and players in the club’s history, the project will carry out an oral history of fans’ and players’ memories, and produce a community film about the club’s heritage. A key part of the project will also include a major interactive exhibition at St. James Park. This will create a permanent record and legacy for the community to celebrate the Grecians’ culture and heritage.

Commenting on the award Tony Badcock, a member of the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust Board of Society said, “The win at Wembley was just reward for those fans that have stood by this club when it was needed most. Exeter City has a rich and dramatic history that deserves to be celebrated. From touring Argentina and Brazil in 1914, the 1931 and 1981 F.A. Cup runs, and the wonderful characters who have played for our club from Bastin and Pym, to Kellow and Banks. This footballing legacy deserves to be preserved for our generations to come”.

Frances Farley, Exeter City’s Operations Director also paid tribute to those who have helped to make this award possible. She said, “Many people have been working towards establishing an historical archive for the past two years and we are delighted that the HLF have agreed to support this project. I would particularly like to thank Mary Godwin, Community Museum’s Officer who has supported the Club and Trust in putting this bid forward. This is an excellent example of how we are successfully working in partnership with others”.

In explaining the significance of this award, Julie Cooper, Acting Head of South West Region for HLF, added: "The Grecian Voices project will be a fantastic resource and we are so pleased to help bring it to life. HLF is dedicated to opening up heritage resources to as many people as possible, and this project will enable everyone to explore a huge variety of historic material and residents' memories that cover the club's eventful past."
