Exeter City AFC Supporters' Society Limited Ballot 2007

One of the fantastic things about the Trust movement is the spirit of co-operation around the country within the Trust movement. Adversaries on the field the teams may be, but at the end of the day we are all supporters of football and the clubs we support and there is a common bond. In my view community clubs are the way forward and both Exeter City and Lincoln City share a similar heritage, Trusts born out of adversity. It is therefore an honour to be asked to be the returning officer for the Exeter City AFC Supporters’ Society Board elections for 2007.

One unfortunate aspect of the democratic process this year was the intervention of a postal strike causing disruption to the Royal Mail delivery service. The Supporters’ Trust at Lincoln, as the independent adjudicators of this election decided to extend the arrival date of all ballot papers to midday on 15th October. We hope this meets with the approval of the Exeter City Trust due to the unforeseen events of last week.

The result of the Exeter City AFC Supporters’ Society Limited Ballot for 2007 is as follows.

MIKE COOPER - 272 Votes
CHRIS PHILLIPS - 263 Votes
ROY SLACK - 246 Votes
ADRIAN GIBB - 243 Votes
PETER TOMLINSON - 235 Votes
ANDY COLE - 207 Votes
ALISTAIR YATES - 169 Votes

14 ballot papers were spoilt, the vast majority due to no membership number.

A total of 341 ballot papers were received of which 3 were e-mail ballot papers.
The Lincoln City Supporters’ Trust wish their counterparts at Exeter every success for the rest of the season both as a Trust and as a community owned football club.

Best wishes,
Rick Keracher
Returning Officer

David James Backs Exeter City ‘Kick It Out’ Game

Devon based Portsmouth and England goalkeeper David James is helping Exeter City kick racism out of football.

The Premiership goalie has sent a special message to support this Saturday’s designated ‘Kick It Out’ game between Exeter City and Rushden and Diamonds.

His contribution will appear in The Grecian, City’s official programme for the match. This is an extract:

“Football is a game for all. Everyone should have the opportunity to play, watch and participate in sport. I have seen in countries all over the world the power that sport, especially football, can play in the lives of everyone – boys and girls, men and women, those with physical or learning disabilities, no-one should be excluded”.

The Kick It Out game is timed to be part of the national 'Kick It Out' week of action from 18-30 October.

The aim of the week is for community groups, footballers and fans to come together behind the message 'One Game, One Community'.

A series of initiatives are being organised by The Grecian's 'Kick It Out' group, which is backed by the Supporters' Trust, to underline Exeter City's zero tolerance of racism on or off the field.

"We want everyone in the community feeling welcome to matches at St James' Park. We are making good progress but the designated game is a further opportunity to show what we are all about at Exeter City - a friendly community club" said Fran Jenkin for the Exeter City 'Kick It Out' group.

Exeter City have been praised for their previous designated days which extend back 10 years to 1997. The national 'Kick It Out' campaign says that "The Grecians fly the flag impressively for the Conference".

Anyone who would like to help on the day would be very welcome. Please contact the organisers at kickitout@exetercityfc.co.uk.

Election Votes - Postal Strike - Latest

As you are aware, a postal strike has been effected. This has come at an unfortunate time, towards the end of the election timescale for Board of Society posts.
It has been agreed with the Election Returning Officer than all votes which are date stamped up to and including the deadline date (6th October), and received by next Thursday (11th October), will be included within the election count. Unfortunately, given the deadlines for the AGM, it has not been possible to extend the voting timescale.
Can we please ask, therefore, that if you intend to vote, you post letters by tomorrow, the formal deadline.

ECFC Brick Scheme Press Release

In the past few months there has been some understandable concern raised from fans regarding the status of the ECFC Brick Scheme. It is as a result of this unease amongst fans that the Supporters' Trust feels it only fair to clarify the situation regarding this disappointingly long term project.

Following failed attempts in the past to source specially engraved bricks for this project from a number of suppliers, we are now in a position to announce that the Trust in conjunction with the football club, have successfully identified a suitable supplier for these bricks, and that this supply has now reached the Football Club. It is hoped that these will now be erected adjacent to the new club shop ready for the ECFC v Rushden & Diamonds match on the 20th October.

We would like to emphasise that the Trust and Football Club have regarded the completion of this project as a priority for some time, and have sincerely regretted the failure to delivery of this project to date. Principally this failure has been due to circumstances beyond our control and have resulted from supply difficulties. Together both Exeter City and the Supporters' Trust would like to thank fans for their support and patience, we sincerely hope that following the completion of this project we will be able to reflect on this scheme and move forward in a positive manner.

Should you have any queries regarding details of this project please feel free to contact the Supporters' Trust via post at ECFC Supporters' Trust, PO Box 231, Exeter, Devon. Alternatively you may email us at trust@ecfc.co.uk or pop in to the Trust's new office adjacent to the Centre Spot bar.

Thank you all for your much valued support.
