Help Club to Celebrate its Culture and History
Article provided with kind permission by the Express
& Echo Newspaper.
A PROJECT launched to celebrate Exeter City’s proud heritage has revealed
a rich vein of great memories.
But the organisers remain keen for anyone with an interest in the club and
its association with the city to write in with their support.
The supporter-led club, which is committed to strengthening its links with
the community, is well under way with ambitious plans to ensure its colourful
history is recorded and preserved for generations to come.
Tony Badcock, a member of Exeter City Supporter’s Trust spearheading
the club’s bid to document and celebrate its culture and history, said:
“It is going well and we have had some wonderful donations of memorabilia.
“It is one of those things where everybody thinks it’s a good
idea but leaves it to someone else to write.”
Among the exciting gifts is a unique, leather-bound scrapbook from the 1950s,
sent in by City stalwart and former Echo reporter Clive Toye, who now lives
in America.
And William Lewis, of Winkleigh, has sent in a similar book dating from the
1930s.
Tony is particularly keen to hear from football supporters who have memories
of particular games or incidents and from local history groups who may have
specific knowledge about the club.
He said: “From touring South America and playing Brazil in 1914, to
the games against Manchester United in 2005 and at Wembley last year, this
club has a rich and dramatic history which we should seize the opportunity
to document for posterity and celebrate.
“This football club would not be here today were it not for fans’
unwavering loyalty and I have no doubt they will, yet again, come up trumps
with this.
“We need people’s memories of the last 100-odd years and their
recollections of precisely what this wonderful football club, which has endured
such highs and lows, has meant to them. If they’ve got any memorabilia
— such as programmes, ticket stubs or old photos — they might
like to share with us, then better still.”
Tony Badcock can be contacted c/o Exeter City Football Club, St James’s
Park, Exeter, EX4 6PX; or by email to community@exetercityfc.co.uk;
or phone on 07792 393442.

Latest on Grecian Trust Sheme
Well fellow Grecians, the Grecians Trust Scheme (GTS) has been running for
a few weeks now, therefore we thought it would be a good thing to give you
an update on how it has been going.
Quite a good response so far, but it could be much better with your help.
Some of the items we have sold include: 2 Bicycles, a Laptop, Books, Programmes,
Ceramics, Bedding, Videos, and PC CD ROMs. We have sold one Devon Flag Car
Sticker so far, but would love to sell more of them.
More thanks to the following for their donations: Fran Jenkins, Tim Dienes,
Jim Eastment, Tony Badcock, Adrian Hitchcock, Ian Jubb, Mrs Prattlett, Norman
Shiel, Jake and Matt Dillon, Dave Knight, Mr M Tatchell, Alistair Young and
Al Yates.
A lot of donated items are still in the process of being sold either on Internet
or local auctions, with much of it going to Boot Sale. Barry and Donna Sansom
will be selling at a Boot Sale in the near future. Details to follow, so please
see if you can spare a bit of time to pop along, say hello and perhaps buy
something (no obligation). Perhaps you might want to get involved on the day,
if so, just let me know. Call me on 01392 214071.
More items to be sold include, more Books, Videos, Programmes, DVD’s,
Drinks Maker, Mens Shirt, Football shirts, Board Games, Printer/Photocopier,
Furniture, Lamps, Shades, and much more.
Tony Badcock who is a member of the Trust Board of Society is working closely
with Barry on the GTS, is very enthusiastic about the scheme and gives it
his full backing. Tony said, “The Trust believes this scheme has great
potential to raise money and we have thus far distributed 5,000 leaflets to
supporters as a means of raising awareness. We all have bits and pieces we
don’t use, or things given to us that we may like to ‘recycle’
elsewhere! What better way to de-clutter the house, garage or loft than to
donate them to the Grecian Trust Scheme and make money to benefit OUR football
club”.
Some items are now available on EBID, where you can pop along, register and
bid or simply browse first. Just use the link below or simply email barrysansom2@sky.com.
http://uk.nine.ebid.net/perl/normal.cgi?user=GreciansTrust&mo=their-all-about
Also, if you register via the link below, we can have even more fun, for
every person that registers with EBID the GreciansTrust earns what are called
BUDDY points. Once we have earned enough points we can bid on EBID auction
goods, such as mugs, tax disc holders, pens, Dyson cleaners, Senseo Coffee
Maker, Garden Kits and DVD players to name a few. When we purchase an Ebid
item through Buddy points, it will go into a draw and all the Trust bidders
will get automatic entry to win the item. Remember though, to earn these buddy
points you will need to register via the link below, or email me, Barry at
Barry@bsansom.fsnet.co.uk I will then get back to you with a simple email
link to the site and at the same time register you as an entrant to win any
prize we receive in the future.
http://uk.ten.ebid.net/perl/normal.cgi?ref=GreciansTrust&mo=register-main
Please help this scheme become very profitable by donating as much as you
can. We do already have a lot of books and programmes, so would not hope to
have many more at this stage, but they would not be refused. Contact Barry
Sansom where possible on 01392 214071 if you have something to donate, for
he would be happy to arrange collection, you can alternatively drop them off
at the Club old shop office (Trust Office) or if you can find 79 Merrivale
Road, Exeter EX4 1PU, pop round and see Barry, you might even get a brew if
lucky, but please ring first to make sure he is home.
£238.56 has gone through the scheme so far with much
more in the pipeline, with a couple of the donators earning themselves some
money at the same time helping the Trust by giving a minimum 20% of sales
value. So why not make yourself money and the Trust now. Helps the Club you
know!

ECFC Supporters' Trust – The Future of our Club!
The ECFC Supporters' Trust are writing to you to inform you of a number of
developments that have taken place in the last few weeks that are of vital
significance to the future of Exeter City Football Club.
In October 2006 both Exeter City Football Club and the Supporters' Trust
commissioned an options study by the commercial property consultants Drivers
Jonas. This study was undertaken to assist the Football Club to address the
issue of its long term future and to help provide empirical evidence to support
any argument to stay or relocate away from St James Park.
Following the conclusion of works undertaken by Drivers Jonas, a working
group of Trustees and representatives from Exeter City FC have been working
in conjunction with various stake holders and partners to bring all option
study work to a position where a decision on our club's future can be taken.
Following the publication of the Drivers Jonas Executive Summary (available
from the Exeter
City FC official web site or upon request to the Supporters Trust) and
the recommendation from the joint Supporters' Trust and Football Club working
group to explore the option of redeveloping our spiritual home at St. James
Park, both parties would like to seek a mandate from the membership of the
majority shareholder to move forward.
Should you have any queries concerning this report, the Supporters’
Trust would welcome your correspondence. You may get in touch via post or
email (trust@ecfc.co.uk) and we will be happy to go through any of your queries.
The Exeter City Supporters' Trust is a democratic body whose principle objective
is to enhance the voice of fans at ECFC, and to this end we would invite all
current members of the Supporters' Trust to vote on the future of Exeter City
FC.
In the coming days the Supporters' Trust will be sending a mail shot to the
entire Trust Membership. As part of this mail-out we will include a voting
slip that can be returned to us at ECFC Supporters Trust, PO Box 231,
Exeter. Alternatively you can vote via the Trust’s new members
only data website facility. To access this facility you must register for
login access at www.ecfcst.org.uk/members.
Once you have created a login you may cast your vote. We would urge anybody
using this facility to also check their personal details and alter these accordingly.
We would also like to encourage our members to submit an email address with
which we can communicate. Currently postal communications cost the Supporters'
Trust over £600, therefore the more members who submit an email address,
the less the cost to us.
In conjunction with this particular mail out, the Supporters' Trust has also
sent out a batch of Trust membership renewal requests. The Board of Society
would like to emphasise that only current members of the Supporters' Trust
are eligible to vote. We would urge all expired members or any ordinary fans
who wish to participate in this momentous exchange in our clubs history to
join the Trust today. For more details visit the "how
to join" page.
On behalf of the Trustees of the ECFC Supporters' Trust and the directors
of Exeter City AFC Ltd. we would like to personally thank all our members
for their continued support. Without you support our club would not be in
existence today.
Yours sincerely
THE BOARD OF SOCIETY – ECFC Supporters' Trust

Disability Equality Seminar
Wednesday 30 January 2008
Report by: Nick Saunders, ECDSA Chairman, ECFC Disability Liaison Officer
& ECSC Disabled Supporters Representative
& Colin Atkins, ECDSA Vice-Chairman
The Seminar was held at Wembley Stadium and was jointly funded by The FA
and Wembley Stadium Ltd on behalf of the Premier League, Football League and
Football Conference in partnership with NADS - The National Association of
Disabled Supporters.
BBC’s Ray Stubbs hosted the day and the speakers included Sir Trevor
Brooking - The FA Head of Football Development, Joyce Cook - Chair of NADS
and Eleanor Ellison from RNIB.
The seminar was a great opportunity for all those involved in disability
equality in the professional clubs to have a chance to meet and share examples
of best practices and to identify ways in which disabled people can be supported
by clubs and the authorities in the future. The audience was mainly made up
of Club Disability Liaison Officers, NADS members and representatives from
the various Disabled Supporters Associations around the country, myself and
Colin Atkins - ECDSA vice-chairman were there to represent Exeter City Football
Club and Exeter City Disabled Supporters Association.
During the day NADS launched their level playing field campaign for 2008
which this year will be focusing on sensory impairments and their 2007 state
of the game report, we also heard from Eleanor Ellison of the RNIB on their
Soccer Sight project and within her presentation she told everyone about the
fantastic work being done at Exeter City FC which was mainly being run by
volunteers and of the great work the club was doing to help all disabled supporters
and that the Soccer Sight project was being launched soon at Exeter City FC.
A number of clubs shared their best practices which included Liverpool, Wycombe
Wanderers and the best practices came from Manchester City which was presented
by Peter Bradshaw - Manager of Social Responsibility about them working to
ensure that their club works with and for the community, promoting issues
of mutual interest for all people, helping to make Manchester a better place
to live, work and play. Manchester City positively works to represent its
community, stakeholders, supporters and staff and to encourage future investment.
Delegates were able to highlight areas of ongoing concerns, which fell into
two broad categories. First it was evident that there is often a disparity
in ticket allocation between disabled and able bodied fans. The second area
was that of the inequality of facilities that are on offer at football grounds
across the country.
We urge all those with experiences of any disability issues within football,
good or bad to continue the debate by contacting us at disability@exetercityfc.co.uk
with your views..
Finally, it was a very worthwhile day and it’s great that Exeter City
FC are being respected by other clubs, this is all down to the fantastic work
all our volunteers and staff do and it’s what everyone fully deserves.
